Russian Second Year

Russian Second Year is offered in one delivery mode: Full Year (classes usually begin in late March or early April each year and run for 30 weeks with one 2-hour session weekly).

The Course is Suitable for:

This course is designed for students who have completed the Russian First Year course at PCE or the equivalent elsewhere, including any in-country experience.

Please feel free to contact us and speak with a course adviser if you need assistance in selecting the appropriate course or level of study for you. Alternatively, to help find a suitable level of study in your preferred language, you can self assess your language level.

Course Content & Outcomes:

By the end of the course students should be able to demonstrate simple communicative skills required in highly routine activities in the past and future tenses. Essential grammar, and high-frequency vocabulary, will have been covered in the course to allow simple written and oral communication.

Students should also be able to talk about personal experiences and plans, express agreement or disagreement, and start to create non-formulaic sentences.

The Course Assists Students to:

  • Make basic enquiries for acquiring goods and services
  • Express and discuss future intentions
  • Express consent and non-consent, permssion and agreement
  • Indicate preference and make comparisons
  • Read and write short narratives and specific contextual dialogues

Course Delivery:

The content is geared for practical use of the language and takes a holistic approach to develop reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. It allows for the cohesive development of language proficiency at a consistent and comfortable speed.

The course is delivered by experienced adult educators and the teaching style is interactive, giving students the opportunity to learn with, and from, others.

Students are expected to spend an equal amount of time on individual study between sessions.

Certificate & Assessment:

Upon successful completion of the course, and meeting attendance requirements, participants will receive a University of Adelaide, Centre for Professional and Continuing Education Certificate of Completion.

Intensive and Full Year students have the option to take an assessment of competency, if the required standard is achieved and the attendance requirement is met, students will be awarded a Certificate of Competency.

This is not an award course. However, there are some institutions that may recognise this course as a unit of study. Students should check with the institution concerned regarding recognition.

Payment Options, Concessions and Discounts:

  • Discounts and concessions are applicable to this course.
  • A part payment option is also available for this course.
  • HECS/FEE-HELP cannot be used to pay for this course.

Please note: Entry to full year courses is possible at any time of the year. It is the responsibility of the student to determine they have the required language competency to cope with the course content at the point of entry.
